First comes the setup;

“It’s not that I want to get paid,” said Place 4 member Chris Jones after the meeting."

Then the delivery;

“If you look at the amount of time we spend,” referring to city business, “it’s a huge chunk of time.”

Then he goes on in the article to justify himself getting a paycheck because poor people can't serve since City Council doesn't get paid.

I agree that some people probably can't afford to serve. Of course, some can't get the time off, even if they can afford it.

I don't mind the idea of paying them, but I'd like to see them given the option to waive the compensation and have it donated to a local charity. There are plenty of people in town who are in need.

That way, people who could not afford to serve for free would not be shut out, but people with plenty of money would not necessarily get to line their pockets at the taxpayers' expense.

I'd expect council members who are not economically disadvantaged to take advantage of the option to donate their compensation and if they did not, I would make my concerns known at the ballot box.

this article is extremely bias and I consider myself a supporter of liberal media. don't his take words out of context. remember that he represents the black community as well as the student, two underpaid and undervalued members of our san marcos society.

The whole city council board deserves compensation and has given back alot to the community.
