Ethics of Jude Prather's Phone Spam

San Marcos was flooded with automated phone calls from the Jude Prather campaign tonight.

The automated calls traced back to Tara Smith, (512) 878-4256, someone a source says is connected to the Prather campaign. However, in the phone spam message no name or information was given.

The automated message requested to know who you were going to vote for this coming election for Place 2.

How ethical is it to flood a town with automated phone calls at supper time asking to know who you are going to vote for but not giving any information about who it is requesting the information?

Despite several numbers being on the Do Not Call list it did not prevent the automated calls from happening.

Why was no information given on who was conducting the survey? Why was it attempted to be done anonymously? Is this behavior something San Marcos citizens should tolerate of an official running for City Council?

I quit my job to help elect my friend Jude. As a former San Marcos Daily Record political rpeorter, nothing about the tone Mr. Bose's supporters are taking surprise me. They retain power by dividing the community into warring factions, pitting one group against another.

As for the phone calls, they were not anonymous. They were identified as coming from SM Consulting, a proprietorship duly registered with the Texas Secretery of State. The company is polling for the campaign. In polling, you do not identify the calls as coming from, say, the Jude Prather Campaign because you want people to respond honestly without regard for who is conducting the research.

I got this phone call and it did not mentioned anything about SM Consulting. It was completely anonymous. At no point did the message give a name on who was conducting it.

Interesting that my PRO Prather and Porterfield comments are not being accepted by this site - but others can write anonymously that someone is an idiot and THAT is accepted.

Was this site just built for mud slinging? What a silly shame.

It if proports to be a legitimate forum, I would think that the monitors would require people to stand behind their accusations. Otherwise their comments are no more valid that those written on bathroom walls.

Perhaps "Citizen" could stand up and be counted - and identified if (s)he feels so strongly about these opinions. The rest of us will - whether our posts are accepted by this little website or not.
