Why is the Mayor Against the Craddock Park?

For awhile now the land for sale at RR12/Craddock has been a hot button topic. A number of supporters proposed finding outside funding to create a neighborhood park that the area lacks now.

However, Mayor Susan Narvaiz blasted the park with backing from Chris Jones, Daniel Guerrero, and Pam Couch. Its not surprising in the least that Jones, Guerrero and Couch voted with her because they always do. Thomaides, Bose and Robertson all supported the issue but were overruled.

What is really odd is what the Mayor and the three members of Council rejected was only a nonbinding support resolution. It would have not binded the city to any funding at all. All it would have done would give the Craddock Park Committee a chance to look for funding elsewhere than the city.

So why did Mayor Susan Narvaiz and her three Council pals vote down the issue?

She stated that she believed Commerical development needs to go there.

But why promote commercial development in a neighborhood especially so close to the Aquifer recharge zone? It doesnt make any sense. So the neighborhoods are only left to wonder what plans the Mayor has in store for her vision of the city as she so keenly wrote in her weekly San Marcos Record editorial.

Additionally, if the Mayor states "we have plenty of parkland", then check and see WHERE it is located... the fact is, except for a little "pocket" park behind Castle Forest area, there is no accessible park within MILES of the proposed Craddock parkland....and if we do have plenty of parkland, all "bunched" together, then upon Craddock becoming a park, a like amount could be sold/traded after an authorizing election (That's why the Public Library/Activity Center are where they are.)
