Why only squares on the Council? 08/19/2008
By: Sebastion Add A Picture Report A Problem
Calling all people of outgoing and open minds! Why not run for Council or better yet Mayor?
It’s looking right now like Susan Narvaiz and Chris Jones are possibly going to run uncontested. What a joke! These two are so out of touch they couldn’t locate a diamond in De Beers mine!
So eccentric people, people of free minds, people of personality, please head up to the proper place, sign the documents and run for office! |

COMMENTS Name: Roger | | I suspect that the "progressive" turnout for the marijuana initiative a few years ago (700 or less for it) and the general student political apathy are not encouraging to anyone so inclined. Coffee house rhetoric is hard to translate into actual votes in San Marcos. |
| Name: SanMan | | I agree that Chris Jones is completely lost and makes San Marcos City Council look like a small town joke! He is more of a complete moron everytime he talks during each meeting. He still thinks the "Man is holding" him and the students down! |
| Name: semi-native | It seems like a blanket call for someone new is kind of risky.
What issues in particular are you looking to see addressed, and how? |
| Name: the watcher | | Isn't this how Nixon got into politics? |
| Name: toerontoe | | The mayor's support for Pauly surely makes her an easy target. Don't forget public servants who serve badly when the chance comes to un-elect them. |
| Name: the watcher | The mundane reality of typical council business is numbing and deleterious. As a first step for most in the political world it acts as a filter to keep the sharpest minds from going any further. The brightest see the painful veracity of such an endeavor and avoid entering politics religiously. Thus we get candidates with accountant and school principal mentalities.

| Name: Diane | | Let's remember that all of the city council members serve as a public servant and give their time and heart to this city everyday....unpaid. Most work full time jobs, have personal lives, families and still believe in making San Marcos the best place to live. Even if you don't agree with their political views, you have respect their dedication. Most San Marcos residents don't even vote, let alone run for an office or serve on a board. If you don't like their political views, then you should run... not push others to take on a responsibility that you won't. And... it sounds like you just don't like them vs having real issues to discuss. |
| Name: Lawrence | | Trying to get liberal students, stoners, eccentrics etc. to vote is like herding cats. Good luck. |
