Herberts is a hugely popular off-the-beaten path Tex-Mex restaurant that started as a takeout taco hut. The homemade architecture in the charming authentic restaurant tells the story of how its grown. Autographed phtoos of celebrity diners ranging from Dallas Cowboys to country singers fill the walls, along with a black velvet portrait of Jesus. Herberts Special is the most popular combination plate, featuring taco, chalupa, enchilada, rice and beans.

When I called about the beans and rice, I was told they have lard in the beans and chicken broth in the rice. I was very confused why they would list these as sides in the vegetarian section of their menu.

Good food, decent service, but I have never had someone be as rude to me at a restaurant as the cashier was when my group (table of 3) forgot to tell our waitress before our meal that we would need separate checks. The guy was just plain rude and disrespectful and I have not been back since. Also, they charge for chips and salsa. I guess they got in trouble enough times for re-serving chips and salsa from other tables that they now charge if you want another serving. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME & MONEY, GO TO GARCIA’S.
